Roddy Scheer is a journalist and photographer specializing in environmental issues, the outdoors and travel.

In June 2015 his guidebook Hiking Waterfalls in Washington: A Guide to the State’s Best Waterfall Hikes was published by Falcon Press as part of a series of state-by-state waterfall hiking guidebooks. Roddy hiked to more than 70 waterfalls from the Pacific coast to the Idaho border. It was truly a labor of love. If you live in or are visiting Washington State, you should own a copy.

Meanwhile, Roddy’s fine art prints, which are for sale directly via this website, have been featured in two solo exhibitions. “Mt. St. Helens: 25 Years Later” ran for two years at the Coldwater Ridge Visitor Center at the Mt. St. Helens National Volcanic Monument. The exhibit featured photos he took of the recently re-awakened volcano in southwest Washington. Several of these shots and others appeared in KC Publications’ In Pictures book, Mount St. Helens: The Continuing Story. Also, his 2004 exhibit “A Day in the Life of Butter Island,” which featured images taken over a 24 hour period spent on one of Penobscot Bay’s most beautiful wild islands, sold out in one day. Additionally, his work is on display in a variety of corporate and retail locations around Seattle. He is represented in Maine by Gallery B in Castine, Maine. Also, check out his new photo books FACES 1 and FLOWERS 1. Get yours before it goes viral!

When he is not out in the field taking pictures, Roddy runs Earth Action Network, the non-profit publisher of the syndicated EarthTalk Q&A column and the EarthTalk.org website. The organization’s weekly environmental Q&A’s reach some 80 million readers via a syndication network numbering more than 1,150 media outlets across the U.S. and Canada and 65,000 users/month online. A collection of Earth Action Network’s “Earth Talk” answers was published in book form (EarthTalk: Expert Answers to Everyday Questions About the Environment) by Plume in 2009.

He has served as a regular contributor at magazines including E-The Environmental Magazine, Seattle Magazine,  Northwest TravelAmerican Photo, PhotoMedia, Wildflower and others — and is a three-time Society of Professional Journalists “Excellence in Journalism” Winner.
